Prophet Shepherd Bushiri is without a doubt one of the most controversial yet popular religious leaders in the country. Even when faced with criminal charges, his hundreds of thousands of followers have shown him unwavering support and loyalty.
After Major 1 and his wife, Mary, were taken into custody by the Hawks - again - his supporters showed up in numbers at the Pretoria court to protest the arrests.
A video that has gone viral on social media shows Bushiri's supporters throwing 'holy water' at a Hawks vehicle while allegedly chanting for it to catch on fire.
Social media user, @TbixSa, posted the clip online and captioned it:
"Bushiri congregants using holy water to get rid of the Hawks. They are screaming FIRE! FIRE! at the Hawks car..."
South Africans could not deal with the clip and they gave their two cents' worth in the comment section. Many fired shots at Bushiri and the 'miracles' he does.
Nhlakanipho Mkhize, who goes by the Twitter handle @DrMkhize4, commented:
"The car is refusing to fall like people do in this church."
Another tweep, @Katlehomokoena8, wrote:
"I'm a Christian neh, but honestly these people look possessed."
Briefly.co.za previously reported Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary, have once again been arrested. The duo was taken into custody by the Hawks on Tuesday on charges of money laundering and fraud.
This did not affect their supporters' love for the controversial leader and his wife. Supporters flocked in their numbers to the court this morning with signs and banners proving that they are willing to stand behind the Bushiris.
One woman even had South Africans stunned online after she claimed the controversial prophet - who is also known as Major 1 - has been arrested for "our sins".
Meanwhile, the arch-nemesis of the self-proclaimed prophet, Pastor Mboro has opened up about Bushiri and his wife Mary's recent arrest. The controversial pastor has said that he prayed to God for intervention in order for the arrests to be made.
“It is not easy to deal with such a man - you need a spiritual covering to fight this. It needed God's divine intervention," he reportedly said.
