TikToker @sakhile_kayla_mahlangu recorded herself toggling between two grocery delivery apps, placing identical products side by side to show what she had discovered over three months of shopping at Walmart. The difference in prices left her visibly frustrated with what she had been spending elsewhere.
The numbers she shared were hard to ignore. A two-litre bottle of Sunfoil sunflower oil was listed at R78 on Walmart, compared to R95 on the competing app. A 2kg box of Sunlight washing powder came in at R50 on Walmart versus R72 elsewhere. Two-litre cool drinks were as low as R17, while the same products on other platforms ranged from R21 to R28. A one-litre Rhodes juice cost R25 on Walmart but nearly double, at R40, on the rival app.
