The South African Social Security Agency shifted its November 2026 old-age grant payment date to avoid a clash with the local government elections scheduled for Wednesday 4 November 2026.
Around four million old-age grant recipients will now receive their November payments on Friday 30 October 2026. SASSA confirmed the revised schedule after consulting with stakeholders and obtaining approval from National Treasury.
The early payment cuts the usual wait between disbursements from 32 days to 28, which is welcome news for beneficiaries. However, it also creates a longer gap before the December payment cycle, which falls close to the Christmas holidays.

Revised payment dates for November 2026
The change affects more than just the old-age grant. Other grants were also brought forward, though not all to the same date:
- Old-age grant: Friday 30 October 2026
- Disability grant: Monday 2 November 2026
- Children's grants: Tuesday 3 November 2026
- Fourth payment date (under review): Thursday 5 November 2026
SASSA encouraged beneficiaries to avoid visiting its offices unnecessarily and to use their usual payment channels once funds have been deposited.
How much will beneficiaries receive?
Grant amounts remain unchanged following no increases in October. Beneficiaries aged 60 to 74 receive R2,400 per month, while those aged 75 and older receive R2,420. The war veterans' grant also pays out at R2,420. Disability grant recipients receive R2,400, while the child support grant pays R580 per child. Foster care recipients receive R1,300 per child, the care dependency grant pays R2,400, and the grant-in-aid provides R580 to qualifying individuals.

South Africans react to the SASSA update
South Africans had plenty to say in the comments on the page:
Gert Smit wrote:
"We all know when we get Sassa, but what we want to know is how much are we going to get. We are looking for R5000 and done."
Maria De Jager replied to Gert Smit (translated from Afrikaans):
"That is not going to happen. There is not enough money to pay every pensioner that amount."
MBS responded to Gert Smit (translated from Afrikaans):
"Seriously! They have surely stolen enough from us."
Gert Smit added:
"This is not Sassa that we get, it's tips."
Mzukwase Myeza commented:
"Unini please."
