Mzansi singer Simphiwe Dana got dragged on social media for body shaming. This all took place when social media and body-positive influencer Thickleeyonce spoke about having cravings for junk food.
Thickleeyonce found it annoying that when people who are of a slimmer build crave junk food, it doesn't come with any scrutiny. She said:
“I see skinny people tweeting about eating KFC for breakfast. No one will say anything about their health. But let me talk about craving chocolate at 8am, then everyone is a doctor who is worried about my health. Please. Gtfoh."
Simphiwe then chimed in with her own opinion, which got some people very upset. She commented:
"The way the skinnies are dying of liver and lung problems that time."
The singer's tweet rubbed many people off the wrong way and this began a debate on the Twitter timeline. Take a look at some of the reactions below:
@locostandi commented:
"To really think skinny people can not be body-shamed makes you so stupid. Really idiotic comments."
@katlego_khanyi said:
"Uplifting one body type by shaming the other is not body positivity."
@MmathabaABokone commented:
"Grew up being body-shamed cause I was skinny. Imagine being skinny dark-skinned and a size 3. It was terrible. To say skinny ppl don't get body-shamed is very ignorant."
Simphiwe went on to say that people are reacting because since she has a smaller frame, people might feel like she has betrayed the culture.
Briefly.co.za previously reported that Simphiwe Dana says South Africa is anti-poor. The Covid-19 pandemic has certainly made things harder for South Africa.
Mzansi singer Simphiwe Dana took to social media to share her thoughts on the state of the country.
"South Africa is so anti-poor guys. People are losing houses and cars during a pandemic. Schools want their full fees even though they know we’re not working," said Simphiwe.
