GAUTENG — A social media video of Cheslin Collins taunting rival gang members has gone viral, days after the 22-year-old appeared in the Boksburg Magistrates Court in connection with a deadly ambush in Reiger Park on 7 August 2026.
Collins faces four counts attempted murder, murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances charges, as well as illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, according to the National Prosecuting Authority. State prosecutors allege that Constables Tlomatsana and Sibeko were shot and robbed of their service weapons while responding to reports of gunfire in Reiger Park. Civilians Roleen Lessing and Jayden Magerman were also killed during the attack. Collins, a self-professed member of the Vatos Locos gang, was arrested in Germiston, where police recovered two stolen R5 rifles linked to the shooting.
Collins' defiant video sparks nationwide outrage
In a video recorded before his court appearance, Collins addressed rival street groups while playing Kendrick Lamar's track "They Not Like Us." Vaping throughout the clip, he warned opposing factions against entering what he called the "Lion's Den" and claimed his group had all the resources needed for street confrontations. Referring to himself as a nice gangster, he alleged recent shootings arose from escalating local disputes and invited rivals to settle matters in the streets rather than online, insisting his faction remained dominant and unified. Collins compared the gang feuds in his neighbourhood to political battles.
