Anele Mdoda has come out guns blazing against people who give fake compliments to bigger-sized folks.
Mdoda took to Twitter to slam patronising compliments. She said:
“Applauding big girls for being confident is like whites saying you speak so well. Stop that or do it at your mother's house. Not apha.”
Social media users had mixed reactions to what Anele said. Twitter user IndianZulugirl said:
“Iyhoooo. This nonsense must stop yazi! It’s getting old... my biggest irritation when someone tells me that you dress well for a big girl, or you’re pretty for a big girl... like vele vele I was supposed to be ugly and dress bad just because I have big thighs.”
Duduk2m said:
“Or when they say you are pretty for a dark person.”
KhanyiZama said:
“You called Kelly ugly, we have not forgotten!”
Ambermphinda said:
“Or they'd say 'Oooh you're pretty for a big girl, if you lost a bit of weight to be flames bruh.' "
Nothembakula1 said:
“The irony is that when we start pointing out how surprisingly successful they are despite being average, the tables turn. If they have the guts to point out something about us that does not meet their preference, we will balance it out. We don't take that nonsense any more.”

Meanwhile Briefly.co.za previously reported that award-winning satirist Lesego Tlhabi took to social media to talk about an unfortunate incident that really made her upset. Lesego has been cast in a new show and was excited to go to her wardrobe fitting but was left with a sour taste in her mouth.
Lesego went on Twitter to share her experience and she wasn't feeling good about what had happened. Lesego said that she went to a famous designer and she didn't get a warm reception.
“Does he not then declare very loudly in the store after a failed try-on that he has nothing for me and then uses words like “fatty boom boom” to describe how I’d look in the designs," she said.
She then expressed that when it comes to fatphobia, body-shaming is different from other forms of it. Lesego said that she was made to feel like she was less than nothing because of her body.
Lesego said that she was extremely hurt by the entire thing and Mzansi social media users took to the comments section to comfort her.
@Aneshree6 commented:
"He isn't a 'designer' if he cannot design for all bodies. Screw him."
@zozitunzi said:
"It's disgusting what you went through, there are no other words for it. I'm so sorry beautiful."
@zandyleebee commented:
"I am so sorry you went through that babes. There are some amazing designers who appreciate and love full-figured women."
