The briefing marked the official launch phase of My Beauty Expo 2026, scheduled to take place from 26–28 June 2026 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre. The event positioned Africa’s beauty and wellness industry as an increasingly influential contributor to the continent’s broader economic, industrial, and innovation landscape.
Held under the theme “Africa: Time to Rise,” the briefing highlighted the growing role of women and youth as key drivers of entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic participation across Africa’s beauty, wellness, aesthetics, and lifestyle sectors.
The event further explored how African-made beauty, wellness, and lifestyle products are increasingly moving toward global competitiveness, reinforcing the continent’s shift toward self-reliance, localisation, and industrial growth.
Aligned with South Africa’s National Development Plan (NDP), the African Union Agenda 2063, and priorities outlined in the State of the Nation Address (SONA), My Beauty Expo 2026 aims to create a platform that supports investment attraction, SMME development, job creation, and skills advancement within the beauty and wellness economy.
Key discussion points during the briefing included:
- The impact of professional beauty franchises on township economic empowerment, youth employment, and local job creation.
- Accredited training models and advanced aesthetic education aimed at supporting SME development and entrepreneurial growth.
- Innovation within Africa’s lifestyle and wellness sectors through locally developed products and pharmaceutical-grade solutions.
- The importance of collaboration between government, investors, manufacturers, and entrepreneurs to strengthen Africa’s beauty economy.
MBE 2026 will operate as a hybrid platform, combining a physical exhibition experience in Johannesburg with digital networking and business-matching opportunities, allowing international investors, buyers, and partners to engage with African brands beyond geographical limitations.
The initiative also received notable institutional support during the briefing.
The City of Johannesburg, through its Department of Economic Development, formally endorsed My Beauty Expo 2026 as a strategic platform supporting inclusive economic growth, investment promotion, industrial development, and SMME empowerment.
Similarly, the Gauteng Department of Economic Development (GDED) acknowledged the expo’s contribution toward positioning Gauteng as a hub for beauty, innovation, and township MSME growth, encouraging broader participation from both public and private sector stakeholders.
As Africa’s beauty and wellness sectors continue to evolve into significant economic contributors, My Beauty Expo 2026 is positioning itself as more than an exhibition but as a catalyst for African innovation, entrepreneurship, skills development, and global competitiveness.
