Grammy-award-winning artist Tyla has announced that her beloved grandmother has sadly passed away.

The South African musician, who recently gained social media attention when she shared a photo of herself and her grandmother, has confirmed the news on her social media account.

Tyla, who also made headlines when she shared a photo of her mother, appears to have had a close relationship with her late grandmother.

The musician shared a picture of herself and her grandmother on her Instagram story on Monday, 1 September 2025, to pay tribute to her late grandmother.

She wrote: "I thank God for your presence in my life. Thank you for all the love and all the stories you would tell me."

The Is It singer also thanks her late grandmother for teaching her about her Zulu heritage and for shaping her into the artist she is today.

"Your presence will forever be missed. The sweetest soul," added the musician.
Social media user @tygersaccess reshared the post on her X account on Monday, 1 September 2025, and captioned the post: "Our deepest condolences go out to Tyla and her family, as she shared on her Instagram story that her grandmother has sadly passed away💔."

PopBase shared on its X account in September 2024 that the artist previously shared in an interview that her grandmother would make her sing a song 20 times until she got it right.

“I was inspired. She would always push me,” said the South African-born singer.
