The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has broken its silence on the dismissal of veteran radio host KG Moeketsi from SAFM, issuing a brief statement that stops short of addressing the specific concerns she raised.

KG Moeketsi's dismissal from SAFM

KG Moeketsi's contract came to an end on 15 July 2026, weeks after a significant technical failure occurred during one of her broadcasts. The broadcaster's decision followed an internal investigation into a listener complaint.

SABC's statement leaves key questions unanswered

SABC spokesperson Mmoni Ngubane confirmed the termination to The Citizen, saying: "SAfm management can confirm that Ms Moeketsi's contract has been terminated following an internal process. The SABC will not comment or engage further on this matter. It's important to note that should Ms Moeketsi wish to appeal the decision, she has the right to do so."

While the SABC's response officially confirms what happened, it notably sidesteps the allegations KG Moeketsi raised regarding how the internal process was handled, the timeline of her dismissal, and concerns over withheld payment. The broadcaster offered no further details beyond confirming the termination and pointing to her right of appeal.

@delightsmalldam stated:

"Saturdays and Sundays have not been the same 🫠 Rooting for you. All the best 💪 I've listened on weekends. I've listened when you're standing in on weekdays. I've never picked up a single rude or dismissive tone."

"Sorry to hear about this, KG! I hope SABC and you will find each other!"
