South African DJ Lamiez Holworthy has broken her silence on her shock hospitalisation, revealing she nearly lost her life after an ovarian cyst burst on National Women's Day, 9 August 2026, while she was on her way to a performance in Brits.
In a candid, emotional Instagram reel that combined hospital selfies, event footage and a couch sit-down filmed at her home, Lamiez explained she had been battling recurring ovarian cysts for some time. Her doctor had urged her to have an emergency operation the Friday before Women's Day, but she pleaded with him to let her honour all 11 of her work commitments first.
What appened on Women's Day
After pushing through gigs on Friday and Saturday, including a flight to Bloem and back to Joburg, Lamiez collapsed in her car on the Sunday. She was just seven minutes from her second venue when the cyst, which had grown larger than her womb, ruptured. She described dropping to her knees in agony while her team watched on, traumatised.

She was rushed in for an emergency laparoscopic procedure at around 9 pm. Surgeons found additional cysts and confirmed a diagnosis of endometriosis, which extended the operation well beyond what was anticipated. Hours later, as the pain continued to worsen rather than ease, her doctor returned to the hospital and discovered she had suffered significant internal bleeding. She was sent back into theatre, where doctors drained the blood and cauterised the affected tissue. She also required a blood transfusion.
"I cried. I was so defeated and mostly upset at my body for allowing it to let this happen," she wrote in her caption.
Lamiez addresses the BBL rumours
Part of what prompted Lamiez to speak out was a wave of insensitive online commentary suggesting her hospitalisation was the result of a botched BBL procedure. She shut down those claims firmly, clarifying she had liposuction and body sculpting done in 2021 with no complications since.
"There is no BBL that is leaking. There is no BBL to begin with," she said plainly in the video.
She used the platform to urge women to take period pain and back pain seriously, reminding followers that one in ten women suffer from ovarian cysts and endometriosis. "Living with constant pain isn't normal, nor is there any honour in working yourself to death," she wrote.
