Eugene Mthethwa Pleads With Public to Remove Graphic Photos of Owen Ndlovu’s Body

Trompies member and EFF MP Eugene Mthethwa has stepped in on behalf of Owen Ndlovu's grieving family, making an emotional appeal for the public to stop sharing graphic images of the late presenter's body, which have been spreading rapidly online.

Ndlovu, a beloved former SABC sports presenter and music rights activist, was found dead on Wednesday, 16 September 2026. He was 54 years old. He had been hijacked and kidnapped in Katlehong the day before, and as tributes from colleagues, peers and the broader public began to pour in, disturbing photos taken at the scene where his body was discovered started making the rounds on social media.

Eugene Mthethwa's plea to the public

Speaking as the family's spokesperson, Mthethwa issued a heartfelt request for those who had already posted the images to take them down.

"On behalf of the Ndlovu family, we wish to humbly request that those who have posted pictures of Mr Owen Ndlovu's lifeless body remove those pictures."

He was particularly vocal about the impact the images could have on Ndlovu's children.

"It is very sensitive, especially for the children to see their father posted in that condition. In respect of the family, let us do the right thing and remove those images."

Ndlovu's death arrives against a deeply troubling backdrop of rising violent crime across Gauteng. His killing has added to the anguish felt by South Africans already reeling from a severe femicide crisis centred in Kempton Park, where the bodies of eight women were discovered over just two months.

A spate of recent fatal shootings has also compounded public fear, with communities across the country demanding urgent action as the wave of violence shows no signs of letting up.
