A fabricated death report targeting Jackie Chan has gone viral once again, with a memorial-style graphic falsely suggesting that the beloved martial arts actor passed away in 2026. Chan is 72 years old and very much alive.

The image at the centre of the rumour shows Chan in black and white, accompanied by the birth and death years "1954–2026," formatted to resemble an obituary. It spread rapidly across social media platforms, leaving some fans momentarily shaken about the fate of one of cinema's most enduring action stars.

A post on X featuring the graphic alongside a poorly worded tribute to Chan drew significant attention, allowing the false claim to reach a far wider audience than it otherwise would have. The image itself contained no credible evidence to support the claim that Chan had died.

International media outlets began addressing the circulating rumour on 29 September, with reports confirming the story was entirely fabricated.

Chan had, in fact, been publicly active earlier in 2026. In July, he visited Pei Chun Public School in Singapore, where he spent time with roughly 900 students and teachers, performed songs, and shared stories from his decades-long career.

Jackie Chan has faced a death hoax before

This is not the first time the actor has been the subject of a fabricated death announcement. Africa Check documented death rumours involving Chan stretching back to 2011, with another significant hoax making the rounds in 2015. A fresh false report also circulated on Facebook in 2025, only to be debunked shortly after.

The 2015 version of the rumour became so widespread that Chan personally stepped in to address it, publicly reassuring fans that he was alive after encountering reports falsely announcing his passing.
