SOUTH AFRICA - EFF leader Julius Malema has called for increased social grants for young women, arguing that the government should provide enough financial support to reduce their dependence on older men for money.
The leader also called for an increase of the old age grant and free basic services for pensioners.
Malema calls for an increase in social grants for young women
Speaking to Nandi Madida on The Motherhood Network podcast, Malema said young women should receive more financial assistance so they would not feel pressured to date older men, commonly known as sugar daddies, to meet their needs.

“The government must be the sugar daddies for these young women. Men should not be sugar daddies,” he said.
Malema argued that the current social grant amounts were insufficient to cover children's basic needs, adding that the government should do more to support vulnerable families.
He said the state should increase child support grants and ensure that children receive three meals a day at school.
“We shouldn’t be giving children R550, which is less than what Cyril Ramaphosa’s dogs eat in a day,” Malema said.
The EFF leader maintained that providing young women and children with adequate financial support could help address some of South Africa's social challenges.
Malema wants free basic services
Malema also called for all South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) grant beneficiaries to receive free water and electricity.
According to Malema, many struggling families end up using their grant money to pay municipal bills, leaving them with little money for food and other necessities.
He proposed linking SASSA beneficiary information to municipal systems to identify qualifying households and exempt them from paying for water and electricity.

EFF leader calls for allowance for unemployed graduates
Malema also called for an allowance for unemployed graduates who cannot find work, arguing that the government should provide financial assistance when it cannot offer them employment.
He said the country should not continue investing in young people's education without ensuring they have opportunities to build their futures.
The EFF leader argued that the proposed graduate allowance would be affordable if the government addressed wasteful expenditure and corruption.
Malema proposes raising the pensioners' grant to R4500
Previously, Briefly News reported that Malema also proposed increasing the old-age grant to at least R4,500 per month, arguing that the government could fund the increase by cutting unnecessary spending and reducing the number of ministers and deputy ministers. Activist Phakelumthakathi laughed off Malema's promising, saying he would rather give every South African R1 million.
