SOUTH AFRICA - An anti-illegal immigration activist has hit out at EFF leader Julius Malema after he promised to double the monthly SASSA old-age grant if his party wins the upcoming local elections.
Nkosikhona Phakelumthakathi Ndabandaba took to X to say anyone who believed Malema's pledge was a fool. His post included a string of laughing and heartbreak emojis, and he wrote:
"Just because some South Africans are dumb enough to fall for it."
Malema's election promise explained
During EFF manifesto launches held in Emalahleni and the North West on 5 September, Malema pledged to increase the monthly old-age grant from R2,400 to R4,500 should the party take control of municipalities in the 4 November local elections. He argued that pensioners had paid taxes their whole lives and spent their retirement years caring for children and relatives. Alongside the grant increase, he also promised free electricity for SASSA recipients and debt relief in EFF-run municipalities.

"This Malema guy had a chance to transform Limpopo but instead he said he is 'international'"
@Frederico_indef asked:
"What about your proposal to give R1,000,000 to every South African each year until death do us part? Was that for election purposes too or just for content?"

"He can't help himself, he chose to lie blatantly 😭😂"
@Land_a_priority said:
"We dont take this cartel friend serious anymore, he must go to the Madlanga Commission to answer about his friends"
@piesangs28 broke it down:
"We fail at doing math. SARS collected $2 Trillion for 2026. The grant payouts he is proposing will amount to $1 trillion. So we must pay half of our taxes to grants. What of hospitals, roads?"
