Limpopo rapper Shebeshxt was back in the spotlight on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, as his legal team appeared at the Polokwane Magistrate's Court to launch a fifth bail application on new facts. This move has drawn fresh attention to one of South Africa's most high-profile criminal cases.
Born Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, the 31-year-old musician has been held in custody since November 2025. He is staring down a staggering 21 charges, which include four counts of attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, assault, malicious damage to property, reckless and negligent driving, and culpable homicide.

A string of failed bail bids
This latest attempt follows a pattern of unsuccessful applications. The Magistrate's Court previously turned down his bail requests, and a subsequent appeal to the High Court was also dismissed in July 2026. In September, Chauke brought in a new legal team to take over his defence, a shake-up that appears to have paved the way for this fresh bid for freedom.
