ProSport International CEO Mike Makaab has publicly addressed Manqoba Mngqithi's abrupt exit from Tanzanian giants Young Africans, while offering a guarded response to rumours placing the coach at Kaizer Chiefs.
Speaking to KickOff, Makaab — who represents Mngqithi — confirmed the dismissal caught him off guard, though he stopped short of expressing outright shock. "Yes, but nothing surprises me in football. I've been in football for far too long to be overly surprised," he said.
**Mngqithi's Yanga Tenure Ends Abruptly
Mngqithi, 55, was dismissed over the weekend after Yanga drew 0-0 with TRA United in the Tanzanian Premier League, a result that left the club five points adrift of arch-rivals and log leaders Simba SC. The stalemate followed a 2-1 defeat to Wekundu wa Msimbazi after the international break, a loss that had already intensified scrutiny on the former Sundowns assistant.

**Chiefs Links Surface Amid Da Cruz Pressure
With Mngqithi now available, speculation has linked him to Kaizer Chiefs, where head coach Fernando Da Cruz faces mounting pressure following the club's early elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup in the qualifying rounds.
Makaab declined to be drawn on whether Mngqithi was a candidate for the Amakhosi hot seat, offering only: "I've been in football for three-and-a-half decades, nothing surprises me."
Mngqithi is not the only high-profile South African coaching connection making headlines. Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso is also under significant pressure after Masandawana failed to reach the CAF Champions League group stages for the first time since 2015.
Chiefs return to domestic action on Tuesday evening, hosting TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout round of 16 at FNB Stadium.
