There is something bittersweet about the end of a chapter, and for Miss South Africa 2025 Qhawekazi Mazaleni, that reality is hitting hard. The reigning queen took to Instagram on 25 October 2026 to share a deeply personal reflection on what her year wearing the crown has meant to her, alongside photos of herself packing up her apartment.
With less than a month to go before she hands over to her successor, Mazaleni admitted that the transition has stirred up a wave of emotions she did not quite expect.
"I've cried so many tears of gratitude these past days; I keep saying I won't cry on finale night, but I'm scared to make that promise," she wrote.
Her post was filled with vulnerability and warmth as she acknowledged the milestone of completing a full year in the role. "Can't believe it has been 1 FULL YEAR. Thank you for trusting me to serve," Mazaleni shared.

A legacy built on literacy and inclusion
Beyond the crown, Mazaleni leaves behind a legacy deeply rooted in purpose. A speech-language therapist and children's author by profession, she dedicated her reign to championing inclusive education and early childhood literacy. Her platform aligned with the Miss South Africa Organisation's Empower Youth Africa initiative, through which she led outreach efforts aimed at addressing educational gaps in underserved communities.
She conducted literacy workshops and school visits across Gauteng and the Eastern Cape, distributing resource materials and promoting home-language reading for young learners. Drawing on her background in speech therapy, she advocated for mother-tongue education and accessible learning resources for children with developmental and communication needs.
Her commitment to the cause went beyond ceremonial appearances, making her reign one defined by genuine advocacy and hands-on community work.
