England rugby star Henry Pollock has taken his recovery routine beyond the training ground, with an unusual home setup that includes an oxygen chamber, red-light equipment, a sauna and ice. The Northampton Saints forward says having the equipment close at hand has made it easier to prioritise recovery around his daily schedule.

In an interview published on 27 October 2026, the 21-year-old told Men's Health UK why recovery has become an important part of preparing for the physical demands of professional rugby.

“At home, we’ve now got an oxygen chamber, red light, sauna and ice,” he said as quoted by Planet Rugby.
“Having that on my doorstep means my recovery is so simple. I can do it first thing in the morning, last thing before bed. It’s been a game changer.”

He believes the demands of the modern game make looking after the body and mind increasingly important.

“The game demands much more now than it did,” Pollock explained. “To have those extra one percents, to make sure your body and mind are right, is so important.”

Why bigger rugby opponents excite Pollock

The England back-row forward also explained how he adjusts his weight to suit different opponents. He said he can add or lose weight quickly, depending on whether a match requires greater physicality or mobility.

Rather than feeling intimidated by bigger players, Pollock welcomes the challenge.

“Going against men who are bigger than me, men who are stronger than me, for me, that’s exciting,” he said. “I look forward to those games. It shows where I’m at against the best.”

Pollock traced his competitive nature back to childhood, when he was the youngest and smallest among his siblings.

“I hated losing. I always wanted to win, no matter what I was doing,” he recalled.

Northampton Saints star focused on improvement

Pollock’s growing profile has also brought financial rewards. Northampton Saints reportedly offered him a multi-year contract worth £400,000 a year (approximately R8.86 million).

However, he said the deal has not changed his approach to the game.

“It gives you motivation to keep striving to be better each day,” Pollock explained. “I just need to do my job each week, and hopefully the rest comes naturally.”

For the young forward, the priority remains improving his performances while adapting to elite rugby's physical demands.
