The murder trial of rapper Kiernan "AKA" Forbes and his friend Tebello "Tibz" Motswane moved into its next phase at the Durban High Court on 8 October 2026, with the state preparing to place its second witness on the stand.

According to an eNCA news report, the first witness to testify was a former Mayville police detective whose evidence centred on a separate shooting that took place in Mayville in 2022. That incident allegedly involved accused number three, Sianda Eddie Miesa. The detective's testimony was not about the murders directly, but rather about laying the groundwork for a broader argument prosecutors are building.

Ballistic link at the heart of the case

The state's strategy appears focused on drawing a ballistic connection between a firearm used in the 2022 Mayville shooting and the weapons linked to the killing of AKA and Tibz. If prosecutors can establish that link, it would tie the accused more directly to the fatal attack on Florida Road.

Trial continues to draw national attention

With the second state witness set to take the stand, the trial is expected to deepen its examination of the evidence chain. The prosecution appears to be building its case methodically, using early witnesses to establish context and physical evidence before moving to more direct testimony.
