The internet collectively lost its composure on Sunday, 26 October 2026, after TMZ reported that two White House staffers had informally floated Nicki Minaj's name as a possible replacement for fired Press Secretary Katie Zacharia.
Critics and media observers widely panned a single press briefing, and Zacharia was shown the door. NBC News reported that questions also arose about whether she misrepresented her legal background. She is expected to move into a new role within the administration.
Minaj to replace Zacharia?
Into that vacuum, two unnamed staffers apparently decided the Super Bass rapper would be a fitting candidate to stand at the White House podium and field questions from the national press corps.

The reactions ranged from stunned disbelief to pure, unfiltered delight. Academy Award-winning actress Viola Davis responded with a string of question marks and wide-eyed emojis, writing "?????!!!!!😳😳🤔😩😩" — a sentiment that seemed to capture the mood of the internet at large.

Social media reacts to Minaj news
Others were less shocked and more entertained. User djshakee wrote, "At this point. I kinda just wanna see it happen. 😂" while row_mon9 echoed that energy with "Oh my gosh please let this happen 😂😂😂"
The circus metaphors came thick and fast. edgar_del_pon kept it simple: "Tell me the White House is a circus 🎪 without telling me it's a circus 🎪", and candice added, "Circus circus 🤡!!! Carry on !!!"
One commenter, lil_izey_official, referenced Minaj's infamous 2021 tweet about vaccine side effects with a cheeky "Bees in the Press, Bees Bees in the press! 😂", while nathalia.ferr was convinced reality itself had broken: "😂😂😂😂 we have to be in an agreement episode of PUNK'D. Ashton Kutcher about to jump out any second."
Not everyone was laughing without a point to make. @itsronmane suggested the move would backfire on its own side: "Yes please do! This will certainly add credibility to the more righteous-minded on the other side and further expose nincompoopness on that side 😂." And 1mztasha had television producers in mind, tagging Saturday Night Live with: "SNL @nbcsnl I'll wait…this writing itself😂😂😂"
At least one commenter raised a practical question, with lorraines_eye asking simply, "Is she a citizen?" — a detail that nobody floating Minaj's name appears to have addressed publicly.
