Veteran South African comedian Leon Schuster got candid during a sit-down interview with Morning Live anchor Leanne Manas, filmed at his home. The warm but occasionally tense exchange aired on SABC and gave viewers a rare personal glimpse at the man behind the beloved Schuks character.
The interview took place in a sunroom-style space at Schuster's home, with wicker furniture and a lush green garden visible in the background. The tone was mostly light and conversational, though things briefly got heated when Manas steered the conversation towards his love life.

"Hmm, do you know that is a bit of a sensitive question, and I, I don't want to answer that because you, you've affronted me now, and it angers me. Because I thought we were gonna get along. Despite the flare-up, Schuster eventually opened up, revealing that he had experienced two significant relationships in his life, both of which lasted two decades each. "I had two major relationships in my life. The one I married, we were married for 20 years and divorced. And the other one I didn't marry, and we went out for 20 years and separated. So I'm a bit wary of..." he said, trailing off as he noticed Manas's large rings. The back-and-forth about the rings lightened the mood, with Schuster quipping:

Manas also raised the subject of Schuster's health, a topic he addressed with characteristic bluntness. The comedian acknowledged that he had been through a difficult period but suggested that much of it was self-inflicted. "I promise you at least 70% of my health problems got to do with the fact that I work too hard in my life," he said.
The interview was broadcast on SABC alongside on-screen graphics featuring an election countdown for the 2026 Elections, which gave the segment a timely backdrop despite its deeply personal subject matter.
