Netflix has officially announced it is developing a limited spin-off series set in the Bridgerton universe, this time shining the spotlight on the woman who started it all: Lady Violet Bridgerton.
The streaming giant confirmed on 8 October 2026 that the project is in early development, with the story set to explore the blossoming romance between a young Lady Violet and Viscount Edmund Bridgerton, the man she would go on to marry before his untimely death.
Similar to Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, the series will chronicle the early lives of a young Lady Violet and Edmund and tell the story of her romance.
The announcement was delivered in true Bridgerton fashion, through a message written in the voice of Lady Whistledown herself.

"The time has come for us to turn our attention to the Matriarch of our beloved Bridgertons. A new series, chronicling the romance of a young Violet and Viscount Edmund Bridgerton, is underway."
Shonda Rhimes, the creative force behind the original series, is writing and executive producing the prequel alongside Nicholas Nardini. The two will co-run the new limited series, with director Tom Verica set to helm the project. No release date has been confirmed, as production details are still being finalised.

What to expect from the Bridgerton franchise
Netflix confirmed that filming of Bridgerton Season 5 is currently underway. The next season of the flagship drama will follow Violet’s introverted third daughter Francesca (Hannah Dodd) in her second-chance romance with bold heiress Michaela (Masali Baduza).
The upcoming season follows the massive success of Season 4, which premiered at No. 1 on the Global English TV list and reached the Top 10 in 92 countries.
Bridgerton Season 6 was also greenlit in May 2025.
