A Gauteng bargain hunter has sent South African shoppers into a frenzy after revealing a store selling branded electrical appliances at prices most people could not believe.

@nicolewocke_, who describes herself as someone who shares good finds with no gatekeeping, posted the walkthrough on 23 September 2026. The clip was filmed inside Special Buy, which she called the first store of its kind in South Africa, located at Woodmead Value Mart in Sandton, north of Johannesburg.

The prices she found stopped viewers mid-scroll. An air fryer for R299, Philips headphones for R25, a pram for R500 and a kettle for R50. Everything, she noted, is branded, authentic and covered by a warranty.

How Special Buy keeps prices so low

The store sources its stock directly from factories, cutting out the middleman entirely. That model is what makes the prices possible.

There is also a weekly event called the Wednesday Drop, where a fresh batch of deals goes live every Wednesday. Each selection is only available for seven days before the next drop replaces it. Shoppers who spot something they want have one week to act before it is gone.

Woodmead Value Mart sits on Waterfall Cross Road in Woodmead, Sandton. It is a well-known outlet shopping destination with over 30 stores, including Nike, adidas, PUMA and Crocs. Special Buy adds a new dimension to the centre for anyone chasing serious deals on home appliances and electronics.
