The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has flagged extremely high fire danger conditions over the Ubuntu local municipality in the Northern Cape in its regional forecast for Friday, 2 October 2026. The warning, issued at 16:00 SAST on 1 October 2026, did not carry any impact-based weather warnings for the rest of the country, but residents across multiple provinces were advised to prepare for a mixed bag of conditions.

The Northern Cape faces not only fire danger but also partly cloudy, windy and cool to warm weather, with isolated showers and thundershowers expected over the central parts. A fresh south-westerly wind is forecast along the coast.
The Western Cape can expect morning fog patches in the south-west, followed by cloudy and cool to warm conditions with isolated showers and thundershowers. The south-east will see scattered showers and rain, while the north-west should remain partly cloudy. Coastal winds will be moderate to fresh south-westerly, and the UVB sunburn index has been rated very high.
