A Grade 9 learner from Pinelands High School in the Western Cape has died after collapsing at his home on Monday morning, 4 August 2026. He was identified as Qa-Eed Lodewyk.

According to reports, Qa-Eed had already changed into his school uniform and was getting ready to head out the door when he suddenly collapsed. Despite attempts to help him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The news shook the Pinelands High School community, with the school sharing a memorial tribute on 7 August 2026.
