A South African woman living in the United States has officially sworn off dating, and her reason has the internet talking. TikTok creator @zamancubesegarra posted a storytime video on 20 July 2026 recounting the moment she decided to call it quits on her American dating life for good. After almost three years of casual dating in the US, one particular encounter pushed her over the edge.

She explained that while on a date, she accidentally dropped her phone and spotted something that stopped her in her tracks. The man had male protection on hand, which would not have been unusual on its own, except he claimed he used them for self-servicing. The discovery left her baffled, and that was apparently the last straw after a long string of disappointing experiences.

Three years of dating in America

For nearly three years, she navigated the American dating scene with an open mind. But the accumulation of odd and off-putting encounters eventually wore her down. The latest incident was the one she could not shake, and she took to TikTok to share it all with her followers.

Her video quickly gained traction, not just because of the bizarre detail, but because it opened up a broader conversation about dating experiences abroad. Many South Africans in the comments related to the exhaustion of trying to find genuine connection far from home.

The comments were firmly split between those who fully understood her frustration and those who felt she may have read too much into the situation. Either way, her decision to step back from dating entirely resonated with more than a few South Africans navigating life and love far from home.
