A Johannesburg couple who admitted they are not professional dancers gave South Africa an unexpected sokkie lesson on TikTok, and people loved every second of it.

The couple behind the account @fabba_ki posted the video on 24 August 2026 after a viewer commented on an earlier clip saying they wished they could dance like that. Rather than ignore it, the two decided to put together a three-step beginner's guide to sokkie.

Sokkie 101: What the couple taught

The video walked viewers through the basics. First came hand positioning: the woman's hand rests in the man's with a firm but relaxed grip, and her other hand sits comfortably on his shoulder. His hand goes on her lower back, not too high, not too low.

Next was footwork. The man places one foot on the outside while the woman steps on the inside. From there, the couple explained how the man uses his body to lead his partner in the direction they need to go.

The final tip was about tempo. The pair advised beginners not to rush. Going too slow is far better than going too fast, and the key is simply to feel the music.

After the tutorial, the couple demonstrated the steps themselves, dancing to the track Vuil Coke by FATMAN.

For those unfamiliar, sokkie is a two-step partner dance rooted in Afrikaans culture. The name comes from the Afrikaans word for "sock," a nod to the tradition of dancing at parties barefoot or in socks.
