Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema courted the ire of podcaster Penuel Mlotshwa and several South Africans after suggesting a crackdown on Operation Dudula.

While he has earned a reputation for his no-holds-barred opinions, his post criticising Operation Dudula rubbed several South Africans the wrong way.

Penuel Mlotshwa and others react to Malema's suggestion

Malema swiftly shot to the top of trending charts on social media. Popular podcaster Penuel Mlotshwa and others criticised him in the comments. Several netizens also defended Malema and argued that Operation Dudula’s work wouldn’t change the plight of the ordinary South African.

Here are some of the comments:

@GodPenuel criticised:

“Either you don't care about the cries of ordinary South Africans when it comes to undocumented foreigners, or they fund you, and that's why you keep defending them. But it's really not a good look for the EFF. You claim to fight for the rights of poor South Africans, but this isn't it.”

@nobula9 asked:

“What difference will it make if all undocumented foreigners leave South Africa? Will the poor become rich? Will the education system change? Will Black people be given the same opportunities as White people when it comes to access to farming land?”

@SarahSikazwe argued:

“Sometimes just shut up, bro. Anyone with half a brain knows Dudula is not doing anything beneficial for the country and is giving the country a bad look on the international stage. Anything that is driven by hate and stupidity should not be tolerated in the growth of the country.”

@L_Mangona highlighted:

“He is protected by the state 24/7, lives in a suburb and goes to private hospitals and clinics, so he won't know what ordinary South Africans go through!”

@We_want_ourLAND suggested:

“It wouldn't hurt him to just be silent. It's as if someone is paying him to post this.”
