GAUTENG — The African National Congress (ANC) is calling on voters to grant it another term to continue what it described as decades of developmental progress.

ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) member Thandi Moraka made the appeal in Diepsloot where the party officially launched its Local Government Election manifesto on 23 August 2026. The elections will be held on 4 November 2026.

Moraka discusses what the ANC has done for South Africa

Discussing what the ANC has achieved thus far, Moraka identified job creation and economic industrialisation as the two central pillars. She also highlighted access to higher education, housing, schools, and roads as achievements the ANC intended to build on if it were returned to power.

"Give us a chance again so that we can continue to build a better country," she said.

She acknowledged that the party had experienced shortcomings but maintained that its overall record of service delivery justified continued electoral support.

How did South Africans react?

The appeal did not land well with many South Africans online, where the video drew a sceptical response.

Fikile Mbalula asks church to pray for ANC

Briefly News reported that Fikile Mbalula addressed the congregation of St John's Apostolic Church, where he called for forgiveness and prayers.

The ANC Secretary General stated that the party could not be judged based on the actions of some members.

His appeal sparked outrage among South Africans who questioned the intersection of politics and religion.
