GAUTENG — South Africa's Deputy National Commissioner for Policing, Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili, issued a stern public warning to those responsible for a series of killings in the Kempton Park area.
The warning came on 14 September 2026, the same day a fifth woman's body was discovered, and the identity of a fourth victim was formally confirmed by her family. Five women's bodies were dumped in and around the area between 15 July and 14 September, sparking fears that a serial killer may be on the loose.
Police issue warning after Kempton Park murders
At a briefing, police announced the formation of a dedicated multidisciplinary task team to investigate the deaths. Residents, particularly women, were also warned not to walk or run alone in isolated areas, and the public was urged to come forward with any information.

Lieutenant General Mosikili also directed remarks plainly at those behind the killings:
"To the people who are killing these women: your freedom is temporary. You might think you can hide, but it won't be for long. We have resources and officers who will find you. Our tracking teams are following all the leads we've received, and we will be coming for all those who are responsible. This is not a threat; we don't want our women feeling uncomfortable any longer."
Criminologist weighs in on possibility of a serial killer
Briefly News reported that criminologist Professor Nirmala Gopal weighed in on the murders in Kempton Park.
Professor Gopal said that the pattern of killings involving the four women was consistent with the work of a single perpetrator.
The police has urged caution against drawing premature conclusions, as the community has been gripped by fear.
