KWAZULU-NATAL - The National Freedom Party has publicly turned on its KwaZulu-Natal chairperson, Mbali Shinga, branding her a "constitutional delinquent" and an "attention seeker".
The NFP hit out at the Social Development Member of the Executive Committee (MEC) after she threatened to take her dispute with the party to court.
Shinga addressed the media on Monday, 25 August 2026, stating that she had exhausted all attempts to resolve her grievances with the party's national leadership through dialogue. She said she would now pursue every lawful avenue to defend what she described as the constitutional rights of NFP members and elected structures.

"The gloves are off, but our weapons remain the NFP Constitution, the law, the courts where necessary, the democratic rights of our members and ultimately the will of the people," Shinga said.
NFP fires back at Shinga
The party has since responded with a media statement, dismissing Shinga's public posture in blunt terms.
NFP Acting Provincial Secretary Zithembe Ngobese said the party was "dismayed by the childish conduct" of its chairperson and insisted that her expulsion from the KZN leadership was already a settled matter.
“It seems the lady is an attention seeker of note, whose shady antics are attempts to portray her as a principled individual.
He added that Shinga was expelled because of the same conduct that made her the “party’s constitutional delinquent”.
Shinga's own standing in the party remains the subject of active litigation. NFP national leadership has sought to suspend and remove her from her positions as KZN provincial chairperson, but interim court orders have continued to protect her in all three roles.

Briefly News reported that the NFP provided an update about Shinga's status as a member of the party.
The party's acting Secretary-General, Sunset Bheki Xaba, also explained why the NFP was withdrawing from the GPU.
