GAUTENG — The family of Elizabeth "Tsontso" Mokolo Moselakgomo, a Kempton Park runner who went missing on 9 September 2026, has been unable to confirm whether a woman's body discovered in Rhodesfield on Saturday belongs to her. Formal identification is scheduled at the Germiston mortuary on Monday.

Moselakgomo, 38, left her Rhodesfield home for a run on Wednesday afternoon and never returned. Her eight-year-old daughter raised the alarm after noticing her mother had not come back, prompting family members to launch a search.

The body recovered on Saturday was that of a woman aged around 38, found partially clothed and dressed in sports attire. Family spokesperson Dawn Gounden confirmed that relatives who viewed the body were unable to make a positive identification because of the severe extent of injuries to the face.

Family urges public to avoid speculation

Gounden said the family were deliberately withholding detailed information to protect the rights of Moselakgomo's young daughter amid mounting public speculation about the case. Relatives have called on the public to refrain from circulating unverified information about either Moselakgomo's whereabouts or the identity of the deceased woman until official confirmation is provided.

Moselakgomo's disappearance falls within a broader pattern that has drawn the attention of national police leadership. Investigators are probing the deaths of four women whose bodies were found in and around Kempton Park over a period of approximately two months, after detectives noted concerning similarities between the cases.

Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane has directed Gauteng police to assemble a multidisciplinary task team to handle the investigations. Police have not confirmed whether the deaths are connected or whether a serial killer is responsible.
