JOHANNESBURG — Economic Freedom Fighters President Julius Malema was filmed dancing alongside his son Ratanang and EFF Deputy President Godrich Gardee at the party's Jazz Hour Vol. 6 launch and listening session on the evening of 1 October 2026 in Johannesburg.

The EFF shared a 30-second clip on X showing the group in a candid, celebratory moment inside a dimly lit venue with red ambient lighting, moving energetically to struggle songs. The footage quickly attracted attention online, with many users focusing less on the music and more on Ratanang's prominent appearance at the event.

Ratanang's appearance fuels succession talk

Ratanang Malema's visibility at the event prompted debate across social media about whether his father is grooming him for a future leadership role within the organisation.

@Phididi1 wrote:

"This is good to see; why build something if you can't pass it down to your kids. Malema built this organisation; it is his, and Ratanang must inherit it."

@MfaneloButhele2 said:

"The incoming president of EFF, Ratanang, is dancing."

@AppollisPe69411 added:

"The EFF President in waiting being introduced."

@MusaNgxabane commented:

"Ratanang is ready for his machinery."

Not everyone was enthusiastic.

Ratanang Malema criticises magistrate

Briefly News previously reported that Ratanang addressed EFF supporters outside the East London Magistrate's Court.

Julius Malema's son came out in support of his father and criticised Magistrate Twanet Olivier, saying she was a racist.

South Africans took to social media to weigh in on Ratanang's comments, with many questioning some of his utterances.
