Eskom has confirmed that seven of South Africa's nine provinces are now free of load reduction, but Gauteng residents in certain areas will still experience scheduled outages this week.
The power utility announced on 2 October 2026 that roughly 88% of previously affected customers had returned to a normal electricity supply. That still left 202 590 customers dealing with disruptions. Eskom also noted that South Africa had passed 500 consecutive days without national load shedding.
Despite the progress, illegal connections and meter tampering continue to cause problems in specific communities. Eskom described load reduction in those areas as a temporary measure to protect both residents and the wider network, even as the grid remains stable and generation capacity exceeds demand.
