The attack targeted Sidney Hill, who was travelling with his two children when armed suspects approached his vehicle and opened fire. Hill returned fire, fatally wounding one attacker. The remaining suspects fled the scene. Police subsequently arrested another suspect two days after the incident.

Hill has since been described as a hero by those who witnessed or learned of the event. Police confirmed he will not face criminal charges in connection with the shooting.

32 cameras and active patrols backing security in manors

Brown described Manors as a suburb where residents were organised and responsive. The neighbourhood watch maintained a group of active patrollers who mobilised whenever incidents were reported. The 32 cameras installed across the area form a key part of that system, allowing residents to track and respond to suspicious activity.

The incident drew renewed attention to the value of community surveillance networks and neighbourhood watches in supplementing formal law enforcement. The dashcam footage of the confrontation circulated widely online, prompting public discussion about the dangers motorists face from armed hijackers and the lengths to which residents go to protect themselves and their families.
