Golfing legend Tiger Woods told police that he was looking at his phone at the time he had a car crash in Florida last Friday.

After authorities obtained the bodycam footage of the incident, he disclosed to officers that he had been on a call with a world state president.

Woods’ Florida crash has made headlines in recent days, and the 50-year-old released a statement on Tuesday, 31 March 2026, saying he will be stepping away from the sport to focus on getting help. This followed his arrest and eventual release on Friday.

After more details of the crash emerged from the bodycam footage, Woods told police he had been on a phone call with the President of the United States, Donald Trump.

“Thank you so much. All right. You got it. Bye,” Woods is heard saying on the police video as he walked over to an officer who had beckoned him back to the crash scene.
“I was just talking to the president,” Woods told the officer.

Bodycam footage reveals details of phone call

Woods is in a relationship with Trump’s former daughter-in-law, Vanessa Trump, who was previously married to Donald Trump Jr. Following the accident last week, Trump described Woods as a “very close friend.”

“I feel so badly. He’s got some difficulty. There was an accident, and that’s all I know,” Trump told reporters. “He’s an amazing person, amazing man, but some difficulty.”

However, the White House has yet to officially comment following the release of the video.

Tiger Woods career update after Florida crash

Woods, one of the most successful golfers to emerge from the United States, once dominated headlines for his performances on the golf course. In recent years, however, he has faced a series of setbacks off the course, with the crash on Friday, 27 March, marking his second in as many years following an incident in California in 2021.
