KWAZULU-NATAL — National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams maintains that he is only appearing in court because he was being targeted.
Adams made the comments outside the Pinetown Magistrate's Court in KwaZulu-Natal on 11 September 2026, where he made a brief appearance. Adams is facing three counts of fraud and two counts of defeating the ends of justice. He is out on R10,000 bail.
Prosecutors allege he misrepresented himself as acting on official parliamentary business to gain escorted entry to Westville Prison in late 2024 and early 2025, where he conducted interviews and recordings with inmates linked to the 2017 murder of African National Congress Youth League leader Sindiso Magaqa.

Adams accuses police of targeting him
Speaking to journalists outside the brick courthouse building, Adams offered a defiant account of what he believes lies behind the charges against him.
"It was I that exposed the corruption in the SAPS. It was I that exposed the fact that the South African Police Service is not employing any other racial group except Black at the moment. It was I that exposed the fact that in the Western Cape there was only one Coloured general, which is madness. It was I who exposed the hotel purchases with tax money," he said.
Adams added that he was convinced the charges were a response from within the institution, saying that it was clear that the top brass of the SAPS had taken a decision to deal with him.
Adams says arrest was meant to intimidate him
