The South African Weather Service has released its forecast for the coming weekend, and it points to a gradual improvement in conditions from Friday through to Sunday, with temperatures rising considerably by the end of the period.

Gauteng, Limpopo, North West, and the Northern Cape can expect largely pleasant and sunny conditions, while the Western Cape should see generally favourable weather, tempered by the possibility of coastal cloud or fog. Free State should enjoy generally favourable weather, although mornings may remain chilly. KwaZulu-Natal's coastal areas are likely to see pleasant conditions, though isolated showers cannot be completely ruled out.

The Western Cape should fare reasonably well, with the caveat that coastal cloud remains a possibility given the province's transition from winter to spring. No major rain system is currently expected to affect the country on Saturday, giving most South Africans a solid window for outdoor plans.

Sunday turns warmer, with caution in the East and South

Sunday, 13 September 2026, is set to be the warmest day of the three days. The national forecast places temperatures at around 29°C in the general South Africa outlook, with Limpopo and the Northern Cape potentially recording the hottest readings.

Gauteng, North West, and the Free State should all enjoy warm and largely dry conditions. KwaZulu-Natal may see warm coastal temperatures, but cloud and showers remain possible, particularly along the coast and eastern escarpment.

Residents in the southern and eastern parts of the country are advised not to assume dry conditions throughout the day, as isolated showers remain on the forecast for those regions.
