LIMPOPO — Businessman Suliman Carrim is expected to face a fresh set of charges when he appears before the Musina Magistrates' Court on Friday, 30 October 2026, with the State preparing to add alleged immigration-related offences to an existing fraud and theft case against him.
According to SABC News, the new charges relate to the alleged unlawful employment of foreign nationals who do not hold immigration status permitting them to work in South Africa. The two individuals at the centre of the proposed charges are Carrim's employees, Musa Phiri and Zakes Ibrahim, who have since been joined to the case as co-accused.
Arrests at Beitbridge border post
Phiri and Ibrahim were arrested at the Beitbridge Border Post in July while travelling toward Malawi in vehicles allegedly connected to a fraudulent car theft scheme. Authorities allege the pair were attempting to transport two stolen vehicles using falsified documentation, with Carrim also implicated in that scheme.

The case had previously been postponed to allow the two employees to be formally added as co-accused. Friday's court date is expected to mark the first occasion on which all three accused appear together before the court.
The defence has also indicated that Phiri intends to enter into a plea agreement with the State, a development that could have significant implications for how the matter proceeds.

Carrim also linked to Madlanga Commission
Separately, Carrim has been in custody for two weeks following his arrest on charges stemming from his alleged failure to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, where he has been connected to allegations of state capture.
Friday's court proceedings will therefore address multiple threads: the original fraud and theft matter involving Phiri and Ibrahim, the proposed immigration charges against Carrim, and the backdrop of the commission-related arrest that has kept him in custody since mid-October.
The State's move to consolidate the immigration charges with the existing case signals a broadening of the legal action against Carrim as proceedings continue in Musina.
Carrim complain of illness in court
Briefly News also reported that Suliman Carrim raised a medical emergency from the dock at the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Friday, 16 October 2026, telling the bench he was in severe physical distress after missing his chronic psychiatric medication ahead of the hearing.
Carrim said he had informed his legal counsel of his deteriorating condition while standing in the dock. He further argued that his ongoing medical situation was the sole reason he had not appeared before the Madlanga Commission, stating that his health, not a desire to evade the process, kept him away from the inquiry.
