Two-time boxing world champion Zolani Tete has been shot and killed outside his home in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, in what police are treating as a targeted ambush.
The 38-year-old fighter, widely known by his nickname "Last Born", was attacked at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening while waiting for his residential gate to open. Two armed suspects, dressed in balaclavas, stepped out of a vehicle and opened fire on him.
SAPS Confirms Murder Investigation
Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana confirmed that a murder investigation had been formally opened following the shooting.
"The scene is currently active, and our officers are attending to all necessary protocols. We are unable to confirm the identity of the deceased at this time," Gantana said.

The South African Police Service has opened cases of both murder and attempted murder in connection with the incident. No arrests had been made at the time of publication, and the motive behind the killing remains undetermined.
