Comrades Marathon runner and fitness influencer Caitlin Hood has spoken out following the identification of Elizabeth "Tsontso" Moselakgomo, whose body was found near Kempton Park after she went missing during an afternoon run on Wednesday, 9 September.

Moselakgomo's family confirmed the news on Monday, 14 September. She had left her home in Rhodesfield for what was described as a routine run along a road she frequently used before she disappeared.
Caitlin Hood's emotional appeal
Hood, who has completed the Comrades Marathon twice and goes by the handle Uhcaitlin on TikTok, posted a tearful video in response to the identification.

"My heart breaks as a woman, for Elizabeth Tsontso," she said.
"She leaves behind her eight-year-old daughter, her friends, her family, just for simply going for a run on a road that is busy, and that she frequently ran on."
Hood said the murders had struck close to home, both as a woman and as a runner.
"The loss of Elizabeth's life has struck me like a bullet. As a single woman. As a runner. My fear is often highlighted as paranoia. But this is why. We are vigilant. We are busy on the roads. It's not enough because the laws protecting against power-hungry men are weak."

She added that she would dedicate her upcoming runs to Moselakgomo's memory.
Athletics South Africa breaks silence
Athletics South Africa (ASA) expressed condolences to the family of Tsontso's family. ASA Acting CEO Terrence Magogodela said Moselakgomo’s death had left the athletics community grieving, with the governing body extending its condolences to her family, friends and everyone affected by the tragedy.
Waterfall City Athletics Club also announced that on Tuesday 15 September, a run will be held across multiple Gauteng locations, including Waterfall, Bryanston, Centurion, Springs, Fourways, Pretoria, Benoni and Greenstone. Participants have been asked to wear black as a mark of respect.
