Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo has been confirmed dead, prompting an emotional response from South Africa’s running community after her family identified her body at Germiston Mortuary.
The 38-year-old had disappeared after leaving her Kempton Park home for a run. Her eight-year-old daughter contacted relatives when she failed to return, prompting a missing-person report and a search.
Running community leader Tumi Sole was among those to react to the confirmation on Monday, 14 September 2026.
Sole founded #RunningWithTumiSole, a running and fitness movement that grew into a large community across South Africa and internationally. He is also a corporate attorney and the founder of #CountryDuty. His running initiative grew after he turned to running following a traumatic experience in 2015.

“We were hoping for positive news but it was not meant to be,” Sole wrote on X.
He added:
“As we often say in the running spaces, ‘iRunner liyanyamezela’ but you couldn’t hold on for longer because you had ran your journey!”
Sole offered his condolences to the Moselakgomo family, friends, colleagues and the wider running fraternity.

The confirmation triggered a flood of reactions, with many people saying they had followed the search and hoped Tsontso would be found alive.

Kempton Park investigation continues
Tsontso’s death comes as police investigate several cases involving women whose bodies were discovered in the Kempton Park area.
SAPS has said a multidisciplinary team has been tasked with intensifying investigations, while Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant-General Puleng Dimpane vowed that police would work to establish what happened.
“We will not rest until we have established the truth,” Dimpane said.
For South Africa’s running community, Tsontso’s death has now transformed days of hope and uncertainty into mourning, while questions surrounding the circumstances of her death remain part of the ongoing investigation.
Fifth body discovery adds to Kempton Park concerns
Briefly News previously reported that a fifth body was discovered in Olifantsfontein on Monday, 14 September 2026, several kilometres from the locations where four women had previously been found dead.
The latest discovery has added to growing concern in the area, with police confirming similarities between the cases while stopping short of confirming whether they are connected. One suspect remains in custody in connection with the first case.
Investigators have deployed multidisciplinary SAPS teams as they work to establish whether there is a wider link between the deaths and identify the latest victim.
