Mamello Makha Named Sole African Representative on FIFA’s Best Fans Poster

  • South African football’s fan culture is set to be celebrated on the global stage in a unique way next week
  • One Mamelodi Sundowns supporter from Bloemfontein has been making waves far beyond the local stands
  • Her passion and presence have now earned her a spot in an upcoming FIFA project honouring the world’s best fans

South African football has never been short of colour, noise, and passion. For years, Joy “Mama Joy” Chauke carried the unofficial title of the country’s number one supporter, cheering for both club and country with unmissable energy.

She began with Orlando Pirates before switching her allegiance to Shauwn Mkhize’s Royal AM, a move that kept her firmly in the public eye.

But the expulsion of Royal AM from the Premier Soccer League has left Mama Joy without a club. While she has hinted at joining Eswatini’s Mbabane Highlanders after MaMkhize’s recent acquisition, the spotlight seems to have shifted elsewhere.

She is a Bloemfontein native, who was once a dedicated Bloemfontein Celtic fan and has been steadily building her reputation among South African football circles.

Her big break came during the recent FIFA Club World Cup in the USA, where Mamelodi Sundowns thrilled crowds before bowing out in a gripping 4-3 defeat to Borussia Dortmund. Makha’s vibrant presence caught attention far beyond the stands and far beyond South Africa.

FIFA to honour Makha

Next week, her name will be etched onto the global stage when FIFA unveils its latest poster honouring the best fans in the world.

Makha will feature as the only African representative, a nod to her dedication and the infectious spirit she brings to the game.
