An American man who has been documenting his Cape Town food experience shared that he went to Spur for the second time, but this time he told them he was celebrating his birthday. The last time the tourist went to Spur, he sparked quite a debate over his choice of orderaround the post and shared their thoughts on.
Riley Beckman, who posted the clip on his TikTok account on 2 April 2026, shared that he was trying Spur "the right way" by letting the staff know that he was celebrating a special milestone.
He captioned his post with a laugh:
"Y'all got me out of my comfort zone."

Nervous at first, he shared the disinformation and ordered his meal, the R239.90 Mohawk Combo. The meal includes pork ribs, a quarter chicken, wors, chips, and onion rings, which he didn't enjoy.
"Overall, I would take my chicken schnitzel from the last time over that meal I just had."
Fortunately, things turned up for Riley when he received the classic Spur ice cream and birthday song from the staff.

Briefly News spoke to former Spur employee Keegan Kotze, who explained that there is no policy.
"I can just tell them that it's a person's birthday, and they would sing and get the customer ice cream. We didn't have to check IDs or birth certificates."

Local social media users gathered around the post and shared their thoughts on the meal Riley had ordered. Many felt that the establishment could have given the tourist a tastier experience.
