The Brazilians didn't sign many players in the summer despite losing their best player last season, including Lucas Ribeiro, due to a contract dispute. The South American star dragged the Premier Soccer League giants to FIFA because of the issue before leaving the club for Europe.
Several players have also left the club this summer on loan or permanent deals, and some had their contracts terminated or not renewed after their deals expired.
Mashego leaves Sundowns for PSL rivals
South African defender Terrence Mashego is the latest player to leave the Pretoria giants before the summer transfer window closes, as he joined another Betway Premiership side.
The Bafana Bafana star has already said goodbye to his teammates before completing a season-long loan move to Durban City. The KwaZulu-Natal side is currently being coached by veteran South African tactician Gavin Hunt and is having a good start to this season.
Durban City released an official statement on their website to confirm the signing of Mashego and striker Letsie Koapeng.
"Durban City FC is delighted to announce the double signings of defender Terrence Mashego and striker Letsie Koapeng," the club statement reads.
"The club has moved swiftly to add quality and depth to its squad, securing Mashego on a season-long loan from Mamelodi Sundowns. The experienced left-back brings a wealth of Premiership and continental experience to The Citizens’ backline."
Durban City chairman Farook Kadodia shared his excitement about bringing in the two new signings, especially Mashego, highlighting the careful planning that went into the decisions.
“Adding Terrence Mashego instantly strengthens our backline with his quality and experience. He’s a proven winner who understands what it takes to perform at the highest level,” Kadodia said.

Mashego's time with Sundowns is almost done after the Betway Premiership champions decided to sign Fawaaz Basadien from Stellenbosch FC this summer. So, in the left-back position, we have Basadien, Divine Lunga, and Aubrey Modiba competing for the starting berth.
The 29-year-old featured in Hugo Broos' Bafana Bafana squad that clinched the bronze medal at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast, but now he has been out of the national team for a while due to not getting enough playing time at Sundowns.
Sundowns sign former Kaizer Chiefs star
Briefly News also reported that Mamelodi Sundowns have completed the signing of a former Kaizer Chiefs star this summer.
The PSL giants needed a replacement for Lucas Ribeiro in their attacking department, which made them go for the ex-Amakhosi forward.
