Kaizer Chiefs are closing in on the signing of Ghana international goalkeeper Richard Ofori, with SportsBoom reporting that the former Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu shot-stopper is likely to join the Soweto giants before the South African transfer window shuts in roughly two weeks.

Ofori is currently without a club after his contract at AmaZulu expired at the end of the winter window. According to SportsBoom, Chiefs' pursuit of the experienced keeper is directly linked to the scale of the season ahead, which includes participation in the CAF Confederations Cup alongside domestic commitments, having finished third on the log standings last season.
Chiefs build goalkeeping depth
Earlier in the current transfer window, Chiefs added Thabo Moloisane and Langelihle Phili to the squad as part of a broader effort to strengthen the group. Renaldo Leaner was also brought in as backup to captain and first-choice goalkeeper Brandon Petersen. Should Ofori complete his move to Naturena, Chiefs would boast a goalkeeping department with considerable depth and experience heading into the busy stretch of fixtures.

Petersen's form has attracted significant criticism in the opening weeks of the season. Against Golden Arrows in the MTN8 Quarterfinals, a blunder by the Chiefs captain directly led to the only goal of the match, knocking the club out of their first chance at silverware this season.
A second costly error followed shortly afterwards. Petersen failed to deal with a routine back pass from Moloisane, and the resulting mistake allowed Richards Bay to equalise, leaving Chiefs to settle for a 2-2 draw in the Betway Premiership.
With a congested schedule on the horizon, Chiefs appear intent on ensuring Petersen has reliable competition and cover between the posts. Ofori, who built his South African career across stints at Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu, would bring both Premier Soccer League familiarity and international experience as a Ghanaian international to the club's environment.
