Kaizer Chiefs have a fresh opportunity to earn R6.6 million in prize money after their CAF Confederation Cup draw paired them with Zambian side Red Arrows in the second qualifying round.
The tie takes on added financial significance following Chiefs' early exit from the MTN8, which left the club without a domestic cup run to fall back on in the short term. A place in the Confederation Cup group stages would guarantee a minimum prize of USD400,000, the equivalent of approximately R6.6 million.
Kaizer Chiefs return to CAF action
Amakhosi are no strangers to continental football. Last season, the Glamour Boys navigated to the Confederation Cup group stage and looked well placed to reach the quarter-finals. Their campaign came undone in the final group match, however, when a loss to Egyptian outfit Zamalek ended their continental run.
This season, Chiefs must again come through the qualifying rounds before they can secure a spot in the group stage. The two-legged affair against Red Arrows begins on Saturday, 17 October, with the Zambian club hosting the first leg at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Chiefs will have home advantage in the return leg, set to take place at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday, 23 October, with kick-off at 18:00.
Multiple revenue opportunities ahead
Beyond the CAF Confederation Cup, Kaizer Chiefs still have participation in the Carling Knockout Cup to look forward to later in the year, giving the club additional avenues to compete for both trophies and prize money.
Progression against Red Arrows would keep Amakhosi's continental aspirations alive while delivering a meaningful financial boost to the club ahead of the remainder of the season.
