Embattled power company Eskom might be facing possible legal action from the City of Johannesburg following the announcement that load shedding would resume.

Eskom delivered a bombshell on Wednesday night. It said in a statement that while the current load shedding cycle is at its end, more is on the card in future.

Andre de Ruyter, Eskom's CEO says that South Africans can rest assured that there will not be any loadshedding during the local government elections next month.

An energy expert has put the loadshedding blame on Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter, who has made the decision to spend funds on renewables instead of ending blackouts

President Cyril Ramaphosa has promised that the challenges that Eskom faces will one day be a thing of the past and solutions are on the way for the parastatal.

Eskom will implement Stage 2 load shedding until Thursday next week. Power cuts will occur between 9 pm and 5 am while emergency reserves are being restored.

Eskom has announced planned loading shedding from 9 pm on Thursday to 5 am on Friday. The utility said this was due to maintenance on its emergency reserves.

Eskom says South African taxpayers will have to cover the shortfall of approximately R300 billion if Nersa continues to reject their proposed tariff increases.

Nine Eskom employees have been rescued by the South African Police Service after they were held hostage by members of the Mabopane community north of Tshwane.
