On-the-ground footage shared on 30 August 2026 shows rescue workers lifting a metal sheet to find the young girl buried beneath layers of mud. Personnel gently wiped her face clean, lifted her out of the debris, wrapped her up and fed her a spooned meal once she had been cleaned. Authorities believe she had been buried for approximately 60 hours before she was found.

Nepal flood disaster

The scale of the disaster is staggering. According to reports, at least 389 people have been confirmed dead in Nepal, with more than 900 still missing. Drone footage from Nuwakot has shown entire villages buried beneath mud, including a power plant facility. In Tibet, regional authorities have reported three confirmed deaths and over 550 missing, though it is unclear whether these figures overlap with Nepal's count.

Emergency teams remain on high alert due to a barrier lake that has formed along the China-Nepal border. Red Cross teams have warned that a potential breach could threaten downstream communities, complicating the delivery of bulk aid.

Hundreds of international visitors are also unaccounted for, among them 290 Indian citizens and 33 British nationals. Seventy-seven pilgrims and three volunteers linked to an Isha Foundation spiritual retreat are also listed as missing near the border.

Multiple countries have mobilised relief efforts. The United Kingdom offered £5 million in emergency aid alongside specialist search-and-rescue teams. India dispatched 10 metric tons of supplies, including shelters, medicines and blankets, and has rescued 84 people from affected areas. The United States allocated $500,000 in immediate relief and deployed a disaster response advisor. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies released $1.25 million in emergency funds and launched a broader $31 million global appeal to sustain long-term recovery efforts.
