NEPAL - Linda Govender is trekking through some of Nepal's most remote and rugged terrain as she continues her search for her missing daughter, Terricia.
Terricia Govender, a 33-year-old data analyst from South Africa, went missing in Nepal following a devastating natural disaster that struck a remote border region. She was on a religious pilgrimage at the time.
A violent surge of water, ice, and debris tore through the Trishuli and Lende Khola river valleys, destroying homes, roads, bridges, and hydropower infrastructure across the region. Terricia is one of six South Africans reported missing following the disaster.

Rather than wait at home, Linda flew to Nepal and began covering the ground herself, determined to find her missing daughter.
A mother's desperate search across the Himalayas
Taking to Facebook on 14 September 2026, Govender posted an emotional update, sharing photographs of her search efforts.
Armed with drones, binoculars, hiking gear, and supplies, Linda and those with her have been walking through areas including Bidhur, Devighat, Galchhi, and Malekhu, scanning riversides, mountain paths, and difficult terrain for any sign of her daughter.
"I am a mother. And I will use every ounce of strength I have, every resource available to me, and every bit of determination in my heart to find my child."
She acknowledged that the journey ahead is uncertain, saying she did not know how many kilometres she would have to walk, how many mountains she would have to climb, or how many hard places she would have to face, but made it clear that she would keep going.
"My body may become tired. My heart may be breaking. But my determination will not disappear. Because she is my child," Linda wrote.
She ended her update with a direct plea to anyone following the story to keep praying for Terricia.
"Please keep her in your prayers. Keep hope alive. And please never stop saying her name."
Terricia's mother clings to hope
Briefly News also reported on Linda's first comments after finding out that her daughter was missing in Nepal.
She revealed that the last building Terricia was seen in was captured on video being completely swept away.
Terricia, 33, was on a spiritual pilgrimage to Mount Kailash before disaster struck the area.
